Good-bye, Yamaguchi-san

This week, Tsutomu Yamaguchi, the only officially recognized survivor of both the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings passed away from stomach cancer. He was a vocal protester against nuclear weapons and campaigned all over the world for disarmament. As a witness to the horrors that nuclear weapons inflicted on Japanese civilians in particular, he was a powerful voice for change. He said, “The reason that I hate the atomic bomb is because of what it does to the dignity of human beings… I cannot understand why the world cannot understand the agony of the nuclear bombs. ” He will be sorely missed.
